I got this tank and stand for $100 and was super excited. the stand is supposed to hold two 55 gallons. would you trust a water filled 55 gal on top and a terrestrial crab setup below?

EDIT: I plan on selling this one and using a cinder block stand instead. Thank you everyone!

  1. No.
One lateral kick to one of those support legs would ruin your day. Plus those pointy front legs are going to sink into the carpet asymmetrically and the whole thing will tilt forward.
And now you’ll get 20 more people telling you “definitely no” too.

  2. They welded that thin ass rod to the side, it will definitely detach in a few weeks and ur entire tank will be on the ground for sure

  3. That stand is fairly standard in the industry. I had a 55 gallon on one for more than 15 years. Having a terrarium below would be no big deal at all. It’s welded steel. You will be fine.

  4. absolutely it will hold a 55 gallon no problem. This style stand has been around for 50 years. This is welded steel and will easily hold 500lbs.

I had several 55 gallon tanks using these stands including having 2×55 gallon tanks on one of those stands for well over a decade.

Hell no, around 200-250kgs on those ROUNDED rods, they lose much of their strength in that shape, don’t do it, who ever came up with that idea should be in jail. Where I marked are all weak points, also am I seeing correctlt are the back legs angle iron??? Wtf. If you really want to keep that stand switch your setup, place the aquarium at the bottom and the terrarium on top, that would be safer but still those legs at the bottom are pointy on carpet

  6. Hey OP, idk if you’re interested in reptiles but that might be better suited for that! Just a thought!

  7. Ask in r/Stressfulaquariums , i did see some similar there, if i remember correct, the Stand is stable

If you end up filling this tank on this stand, please film it. For scientific research purposes.

  9. I use a similar stand with 2 20 longs, and one with 2 75s. Been using them almost 2 decades.

    These stands are the best.

  10. We inherited one at the fish store I used to manage for our 55g white cloud minnow display. Solid stand. It gave me no reason to think that it wasn’t sturdy. We also had a 33long in bottom section too!

  11. Yes, you definitely need help with a stand… just not that one. Please do not fill that tank. Remove the tank from the stand, sell the stand or return it if you can, and get something else that’s appropriate for carpet.

  12. Has this been posted verbatim with the same picture like three times in the last few weeks or am I going crazy?

That stand looks like it was intended for a lizard or snake tank or something…not a water filled tank.

  14. I’ve had this exact type stand for 25 years. Absolutely no issues. Just make sure it’s level

I have a 20 gallon stand in this style, it tilts forwards and I’m actively building a new one. They looks great but without the front support it tips forwards.

  16. I have the same stand for my 55 gallon for the last 6 years, no issues. I got a sturdy piece of wood and made a bottom shelf. I have a 10 gallon and a five gallon on the bottom shelf.

OP its a manufactured fish tank stand meant to hold fish tanks. This board and most of this damn site is riddled with people that either lack the real experience or worry over every single little aspect and make up scenarios, like kicking the damn stand and suddenly the whole thing collapses. The only real concern here is being on carpet and not a solid footing, also, carpet near a tank in general isn’t ideal.

Everyone thinking steel fucking rod isn’t going to support that tank is laughable and has never dealt with anything load bearing.

That stand is going to be damn sturdy. If you take the tank off and stand on top of it, you should be able to tell how it distributes wight evenly and doesn’t bend or bow…. The tensile strength of steel is pretty incredible, the majority of folks in this comment section have little experience with metal stands and are basing their comments on the same anxiety you’re experiencing based on its appearance.

I definitely wouldn’t replace it with a pile of cinderblocks…
