I like the vibe of houseplants in tanks and added a monstera into mine today. I've heard pothos is also good but will they out compete tank plants for nutrients if I were to add another?
I personally love them because of the root systems that the fish weave in and out of.
I also have a pothos but the other plants seem to be doing fine.

Plants which are grown emersed (with their foliage out of the water) are inherently going to have an advantage over plants grown fully underwater. On top of that, pothos, monstera, and other similar vining plants, are quite vigorous. So yes, they will outcompete fully aquatic plants for nutrients.
That being said, im all for houseplants in the tank. That’s where all of my pothos live.

I have a pothos and a spider plant in my aquarium and would like to try a monstera next!

My tank is where I propagate or revive all of my struggling houseplants now. There is nothing like aquarium water to grow solid root systems and the fish love the roots to swim through.
