I put this in my tank a couple weeks ago and it all just seems to be dying on me, all the roots are turning black, and most of the duckweed is losing its roots and turning white, I have no idea why this isn’t the first time this has happened to me as I’ve tried growing it in the past and still had no luck, I made sure there’s a low flow rate, getting the right amount of light, I know it’s getting enough nitrates as I wanted it in this tank to help control it to begin with , I’ve also been putting in a potassium supplement 1-2 times a week to help but nothing is changing, I would love some advice thank you!

I’m pretty new to this too but have you tried a liquid fertilizer yet? I’ve heard they have a bunch of trace amounts of stuff certain plants may need.
Does the tank have a lid? I’ve noticed that those don’t like wet top leaves or high ambient humidity. They do much better with an open top.
What kind of filter do you have? Something like a sponge filter moves the water too much and kills floaters. Liquid fertilizer can help too. I’d recommend the aquarium co-op one
There is a lot of them, I think the competition for nutrients is so high that they aren’t getting enough. Just a guess
Glass top to increase humidity levels + No excess current + excess nutrients = floating plants.
For nutrients try Eazy Green. Or overstock your tank.
not sure about duckweed but for water lettuce…did you acclimate them before you put them in your tank? if not they can melt pretty badly. take the dead/yellowing bits off the tops pinch off MOST of the roots and put them in a still corner of your tank or even a bowl with a heater and tank water for a few days until you see them start to regrow (if they aren’t too far gone yet. they can recover pretty quickly and light, give them light.
i got a batch of gorgeous water lettuce and had the same thing happen they all melted and that is what worked for me with the second batch i bought and now i can’t keep up with them.
I have the opposite problem! But only in one tank, won’t stay alive in my goldfish tank. But in my Tetra and guppy tank I have to throw it out by the handfuls!
I think it might help to increase your bacteria so there are more nitrites and nitrates for the plants to eat, you won’t see a spike in either once it starts growing because the plants eat those. But they won’t eat the ammonia, that’s what the bacteria is for.
If you want to add a fertilizer make sure you have a bubbler since the fertilizer makes CO2 for the plants, they will make some oxygen but not enough for your fish
I can’t grow water lettuce without a stronger light, I had to upgrade mine to keepnit alive.
