Hi!

Bettas are so pretty, I have a tank with just snails and shrimps.

Could I add a betta? What could be a catch?

they might eat shrimp and snails, right?

Absolutely! Though I really wouldn’t get the Betta with the longest tail – I’ve had all sorts over the years, and sometimes watching heavy-finned Bettas struggling to swim brings me to tears. I’d look for a veiltail or a Plakat – I think they’re generally healthier too just because they’re not lugging a dead weight that doesn’t help them swim.

  2. Love your tank setup! It’s so pretty! I think a Betta would be absolutely stunning in there, and yup, big enough tank for them Enjoy!!

Make sure the betta has space to breathe at the top of the tank. I remove some of my floaters when they start to take over. As far as eating shrimp and snails, my betta ate my cherry shrimp but couldn’t eat my snails (even though sometimes he tried). It does depend on the bettas temperament as I know some people who’s betta never bothers their shrimp.

  4. Female bettas don’t have the crazy long tails, but you can find them in the same amazing colors. You never know what personality you’re going to get with a betta, but the girls supposedly have lower odds of being violently territorial.

I have a female betta in a 5 gallon cube, and she seems very active and happy in there. She did kill a lot of shrimp though… there’s only five left in her tank that she leaves alone. And I had to swap her mystery snails for nerites, because she kept nipping at their eye stalks, but she leaves the nerites alone.

I have another female betta in a community tank with other fish and shrimp and the relocated mystery snails, and she doesn’t bother anyone.
