I got my betta fish about 3-4 weeks ago. I added shrimp to his tank (10 gallon) to see if he was aggressive. I observed no issues. So about 2 weeks ago I got 5 Rasboras to put with him. I changed and added new stuff to the tank so that he wouldn’t be too territorial. The first couple of days it was totally fine and he did not care about them. I have recently noticed a sudden change in his temperament, he does not really chase the other fishes, but he flares at them when they are at a certain place in the tank or too close to him( he never actually bite them). Is this normal? Or will it get worse and worse? I was wondering if it could be because he is ready to breed or something so he gets territorial…

They’ll be dead soon, no bettas are truly passive, some just take time.

Gf lost her shrimps after a month of no contact. 1 day it started flaring, a few days later they were all at the surface.

Your tank is overly stocked. The betta is territorial and a 10 gallon will not allow it to have enough territory with fish that swim on the same level as him. Shrimp are out of the bettas way the majority of the time so they don’t bother the betta. The fish will probably get killed by the betta due to the lack of space.

I’m not an expert so I can’t give any good information but can you tell me what kind of floating plant you have?

I would return the tank mates to the store, before getting any tank mates, get something cheap and simple, like simple pest snails or ghost shrimp, you will really get an idea for your Bettas personality with that. Please DM me if you need any more help with your Betta and tankmates as I have lots of experience with male Bettas being housed with others, and how I made it work for me and my fish

  5. First of all, your tank is beautiful!

That tiger lotus will grow a lot better when you take the bulb out of the substrate a little. The bulb should be half buried, half visible. If you leave it completely in, it might rot, especially in sand. Also, you could put that amazon sword more in the back so it won’t obstruct the view inside the tank.

Also, for your question, as others have already said, no you can’t have fish in there with your betta. Bettas with additional tankmates is possible in a large tanks where they can stay out of each others way, but not in ten gallon!

Also, since I read that in one of your answers, do not put corys in there. The appropriate group size is AT LEAST 6 or 7, better 10 or more, and 10 gallon is way too small for that.
