Water is still cold here in the STL area, only thing that got bites was bouncing Texas rigs on the bottom.

What are my fellow beginners throwing this time of year?

  1. I’m in Northern California in the Central Valley. I haven’t fished in 15 years before this year so I might as well be a beginner too. My son wanted to try it so him and I started fishing this year.

We’ve been having no luck after fishing 6 times since mid January. We’ve been trying different places, different lures, live and artificial, and different times. I’ve heard other people have been having a hard time too. I’ve only seen a couple people catch a fish or two.

I think winter is a hard time to fish. I think the water is cold and the fish are less active. I haven’t even seen a fish yet, only an occasional ripple at the surface. At least that’s my excuse. Lol! But, at least you caught a good looking fish!

I don’t really care if I catch a fish or not but I really want my son to catch something since he’s getting a little discouraged. It’s raining all this week so we’ll take a break for a bit. I’m hoping maybe when warmer weather comes it will get easier out there.
