These are the best pictures I have managed to takeš
I have this gorgeous betta- but never in my life have I seen such a shy bettaš I was buying a new betta for my 10 gallon and I saw him, he was such a beautiful fish and I figured Iād put him in my cycled 6 gallon and eventually upgrade him.
-
He hates humans, apparently me a little less then everyone else but he will hide from his own shadow
-
Heās terrified of my phone, he now relates me to food but the minute I pull out my phone to snap a picture he flees
-
Heās very happy in his 6 gallons bc a) heās an introvert and b) he has the heavy ballgown syndrome and isnāt the best swimmer so I was wondering if I could just plant the 6 gallon a lot and leave him in their. Or do you guys think it would be better to upgrade him?

Hide your phone behind something. Like a piece of paper with a hole in it.
if you do upgrade, make sure the tank is a shallow one so he doesnāt struggle at all make it to the surface!
also, maybe give him treats when you have your phone out so he associates the phone with treats?
Your phone is probably strobing at him, most modern phones use IR or lidar blasts to calculate distance and auto focus.Ā
Betta fish have near IR spectrum visual capabilities which helps them hunt in murky or tanning filled water. your phone more than likely is blasting IR at him, which is not being filtered by murky water and it is stressing him out.Ā
I can help you locate what sensor it is, so you can put a bit of tape over it, if you want. What kind of phone do you have?Ā
Also in regard to the ball gown syndrome, he would be happiest in a fairly densely planted tank, it would be better if you can get a low-profile or shallow tank, so that he can come up for air easier. Densely planted but leaving spare room for him to swim freely
