Definitely not pineconeing, imo. Is there any way you can give me a side picture on the side that has the red spot? Ill be able to tell better if hes getting colors, or something else.
It looks almost like a scrape. Is there anything in the tank they could’ve rubbed against? I would observed behavior and apetite. The general rule of thumb is if there’s still a willingness to eat there’s still a quality of life. And doesn’t look like pineconing to me!
is his mouth always open like that? if so, it’s probably swelling which would point to a physical injury
Yeah I would remove the rock. I had to take mine out cause it slowly but surely tore the fins up. If you cant run panty hose across the rock without it snagging, it’s too jagged.
my betta started getting some odd colouration on his body too! it was small like yours but started spreading rapidly overnight and i found out it was a bacterial infection. if you have any sharp decor in your tank he could have injured himself on those, so i’d remove that if you think it’s a possibility. have you tested your water parameters yet? if everything looks fine in that area, i’d say just keep an eye on him to see if the colour spreads and just do small frequent water changes to keep the water clean.

This is a Pineconing betta I can assure you that urs is not 🙂
His mouth is closed in half the pictures. He looks healthy to me, no pineconing, beautiful fins.
Seems he’s doing great and so are you.
Mine has changing colors here and there as well.
He probably scraped himself on a rock, it happens. Maybe move the rocks apart or switch them for smoother stones. Betta love small hiding places- like cats!
It’s hard on plants, but a low does of aquarium salt will prevent infection as it heals. That or keep the water a little warmer than usual and very clean (lots of small water changes).
Should heal up just fine.
And if we’re wrong and he develops a big red spot it’ll look like he was kissed with lipstick!
Starting to pinecone, since it’s one spot, start with a 50% water change.
What are his parameters for ammonia and nitrite? Water temperature? Did you cycle the tank before getting him?
