When you’re reeling in make sure there’s tension on the line or it becomes loose and ends up wrapping around the spool. Also does your reel have a switch somewhere which allows you to reel both ways? If that’s on this fan happen a lot

New line that’s unspooling with memory along with lack of tension. You can try casting something a little heavier with tension as you reel in like a crankbait or heavier sinkers. The line needs some working in. Usually this is worse with lower end mono or fluorocarbon
