Hi! I don’t use Reddit too often so I’m sorry if I’m doing this wrong. I recently rescued a Plakat Betta (I think he counts as a rescue, please correct me if not) and I’d like some help and advice on how to care for him properly!
So about a week or two ago I went to the fish shop to pick up a few new fish for my community tank, a large 65 liter tank with mollies, guppies, swordtails, a platty and a loach, so I know how to look after fish. When starting out I had guppies in a 45 or so liter tank. This is important, I figured I should give plenty of information on this and explain that I’m not a new Fishkeeper, just new to bettas.
So as I’m looking round, I pick out a nice Molly and now I’m just looking for fun. And what do I see? A Betta in a tank with BARBS. I know little about bettas, but I know enough about barbs. To make matters worse, there was another male betta on there, unfortunately he had not made it. I asked the worker about this, and I was very upset. He said the surviving betta was new yesterday but they had nowhere else to put him and ‘he’d be fine.’
I remembered my tank at home and knew my main tank needed a water change. So I picked up some substrate and took the betta home, I just couldn’t leave him to that fate. I’m unsure if he counts as a rescue because he isn’t injured except for a few nibbles at his tail which have luckily healed nicely. I set up his tank quickly with already cycled water and added a few caves and smaller plants to grow in. He seems like a very docile betta so I gave him a couple of snail friends which he loves.
I’ve named him Antigone (if anyone gets this, let’s be friends) which is a girl name but he’s pretty. I’d like some advice as to what I should get him, such as good plants, objects, caves etc. currently he’s eating Bug Bites along with my other fish. He’s flaring and swimming around ok and seems very friendly. But I’m very new to this and want to give him the best chance possible. Any advice? I know bettas like floating plants so if anyone knows some good ones let me know

Lots of more experienced keepers than me on this sub who can give you advice, but I wanted to say he’s stunning and I love his name!
for floaters, I have red root floaters, water lettuce, and salvinia minima in my tank; if I had to pick one i would rec the water lettuce as my plakat male loves to swim amongst and rest in the long trailing roots!
Es relido cuanto te ha costado aprox lo estoy juscando por tiendas y son muy caros
That is a beautiful fish
