What medium heavy rod would you buy to accompany this reel? Preferably under $150. I mainly throw soft plastics. I usually use 15lb or 17lb fluorocarbon line.

if you can find a used shimano intense that would be perfect. if you can’t they’re like $20 over your budget but they’re great rods

The lower end of that budget:
Less than or = $100:
Abu Garcia Vendetta: the new generation is even better than the last, and I really liked them.
UglyStik Carbon: Pretty tough rod and works well, just don’t use braid with this one.
**Abu Garcia Pro Series** – <– I would definitely get one of these. Either the Shane Lehew Dock Skip rod or the Bobby Lane Swim Jig Rod, both are on clearance for $99 down from $200. They are built on the same blanks as the Veritas Tournament Edition rods that are very highly regarded. I bought a few of these rods and they are fantastic. A fairly stiff Medium heavy, rated 1/4-1oz <- my go to range. These rods are VERY LIGHTWEIGHT.
More than $100:
The Halo HFX Rods are pretty nice as well, I have one for my topwater/cranking rod and it’s sensitive, has EVA and cork grips, nicely built. Halo rods are a little softer on the power than most companies. Their Medium heavy is more like a medium plus with a lure rating of 1/4-3/4.
Abu Garcia Veritas LTD: Same lure range as the others, with a softer tip especially in the 7’3″ length. Still a very well built and light rod.

Bass Pro qualifier. I have gone through many and this is my favorite. It’s durable.. maybe a smidge stiffer than some other better rods but for 100 bux they are hard to beat but all the answers here, that i have read, are giving you very good advice. The Abu Garcia pro series (the guy below talking about they are on clearance) are very good but I have never seen them under 179 bux.
