Jamaican up North ice fishing for pike learning patterns

I’m been testing a theory between 50 pound line and 6 pound line and almost 80% of the time the pike goes for the 6 pound line, I can tell from my fish finder it sees both bait but it analyses before striking , when I do get hit on the 50 pound line I find I have to set it higher in the water column to lessen the visibility, I’ve notice.
