Aquariums: Weird hairy stuff in my tank

I've had this tank for just under 3 years and it's pretty self-sufficient. However, I noticed a lot of this weird growth on various plants, rocks and driftwood! It's kind of cool looking but I don't want it to cook my tank. Does anyone know what it is?
