Picture is for attention, but this is my daughter’s beta Luna!

We got her three days ago. We had a power outage last night, and I guess when the power came back on her heater went into overdrive and got the tank to 84°.

I know they do like warmer water, but it’s been consistently at 78 .

I know drastic temperature changes can stress them out and even make them sick. What do I need to watch out for to make sure she’s OK ?

I’m sure it will be OK. The heater can only warm up the water over a period of time. It’s not the same as for example doing a water change of 50% and dumping really hot water into the tank.

Signs to look for, in general, are mostly changes in behavior, visual signs (growths, wounds, spots, etc) on the body/fins and changes in excrement. The latter being often overlooked, but a lot of internal problems or parasitic problems can be detected that way.

I actually just recently had my bettas tank set to 87°f to help speed up the process of the ich parasite. He’s in a 10 gal; I turned the heater right up to 87° and let the water warm up just like that, not over a couple days. My betta did perfectly fine with the “drastic” temp change, it definitely sped up the ich life cycle, and I left it 87° 2 weeks, then down to 84° for a few more days, and now it’s back down to 80°. My betta didn’t show any signs of distress, or issues with the heat. I do have a HOB filter to help oxygenate the water, the hotter it is, the less oxygen.

But yeah, I don’t think you have anything to worry about 🙂
