TLDR I'm not asking for a stocking list , just your favorite centerpiece for a 55 gallon.
My wife and I have a 55 gallon that we're in the process of setting up. I'd like to make a community tank with a nice centerpiece (or multiple nice fish) but I'm not sure of what to go with for the centerpiece. I ran a several tanks for years before taking a break and I'm getting back into the hobby. in the past I had a 40 gallon with some fancy goldfish, 20 gallon with some tetras and a betta , and a 10 with Molly's . Fancy Goldfish are my favorite but I'm trying to step away from those because they can be a bit problematic at times. I'm leaning towards some cichlids because they are pretty but I'll probably have to do a cichlid only tank from my understanding. What centerpiece fish do y'all like ?
The tank will be planted with plenty of driftwood, rocks, cover etc and I'll properly cycle it of course so don't worry.
I also have a 120 I plan on setting up in the future but I'm going to start with the 55 first.

Red tail black shark…
Fill the rest in with assorted tiger barbs(tiger, green, albino, jade, black), and some columbian tetra for mid dwellers. Then synodontis petricola and dwarf chain loaches for bottom dwellers.
We have this tank, but we have a few others cause it’s a 75g… but we love it!!!
1 betta. Give him the kingdom he deserves.
