I just had unboxed my Penn battle IV 5000, and when I try to tighten the handle onto the rest of the reel, it feels extremely loose, and I am able to turn it backwards really easily. And then I have to disassemble the whole handle section and put it back for it to barely tighten again. I ordered this off Amazon. I am just not sure if it’s supposed to be like that because all my other reels have the switch on it to prevent it from going backward. Thanks!

  1. Hold the spool tight and then reel it in should be snug. No need to reel it backwards at all.

  2. YogurtclosetBroad872 on

You have to grab a hold of the bail while you tighten the handle. Just snug it in place and it shouldn’t unscrew anymore. It’s going backwards because it’s unscrewing or at least that’s what it looks like

  3. It doesn’t appear that your reel has the ability to go backwards since it doesn’t have the anti-reverse switch. The handle and the little button nut on the opposite side tighten the handle on. When you reel backwards you are loosening the nut. Without having hands on it it seems to be working as it should.
