Which One Cycles Your Aquarium Faster? [Data Nerd Video]

We tried several products we sell to see which one “cycled” an aquarium the fastest. 3 Tests spanning several months taught us a lot and now we can pass that along to you.

  1. Hi Cory I just sub to you, and I just wanted to say your content is really good and you helped me with fish keeping, thank you so much and have a great day and God bless

  2. Dang. I just set up a tank last week, was surprised when I was ready to start fishless cycling my LFS refused to give me even a little established filter media or even gravel to help seed (just spent $400 but couldn’t get a half scoop of gravel lol). I had remembered seeing y’all’s product but when I tried searching for it on your online store when placing an order for a few other things I couldn’t find it (and didn’t remember the name of it) maybe it was out of stock? So I ended up getting Fritz Turbo Start which just arrived today. Ah well.

Anyways, always appreciate a data-driven approach! As a researcher myself I know how challenging proper experimental design and execution is. Would be curious to see if the results were a little faster with Seachem Matrix or similar as I’ve read some of the Aquarium Science stuff on how ceramics aren’t as good of a medium for housing bacteria due to a relative lack of effective surface area (supposedly aquarium gravel is actually much superior), and that Matrix (while also not great) is around 50% better in that regard. Don’t think they listed which ceramics were used though so maybe your rings and/or Fluval’s are better. And yeah, from what I’ve read lower temperatures do drastically inhibit bacteria growth, so even though I plan to have a 70-72 F tank I’m keeping it at 80 for cycling purposes.

  3. Guys, I love what you do, but This stuff needs to be tested in a 3rd party lab to have any real validity. Also, please consider renaming this to something like “easy bio booster”.

  4. What a great test for proving your product works as intended. I think it will really help setting up a new tank and even better for quickly setting up a hospital tank. As your next test, could you compare the long term efficacy of Nitrate reduction using bio-rings and sintered glass logs, like Bio-home media? Your rings look like they would also work for that too. Thanks for all the great product innovation and helping us keep our fish healthy and happy.
