Hello! This is my first post here as I am new to aquariums and have just set up my first aquarium.

I am on day 3 of cycling my tank right now and everything is going well for now (I think).
Now, this may not be a huge problem for the tank itself, but the flow of my filter has been pushing a lot of my substrate away as seen in the pics. There is this huge crater now and I hate how it looks, it dug almost all the way down to the bottom of the tank. 🙁

I am kind of stumped on what to do about that. Does anyone have a idea on how to prevent this from happening? Or at least on how to make it look better without having to rearrange my tank?

Grateful for any ideas!

  1. You need something to diffuse the flow , I’m not sure what make that filter is but a simple fix would be get some sort of aquascape wire do a small wire wrap around the output spout and and a hang a piece of food safe plastic like part of a Tupperware lid or something just at your water line.

Water will hit that first and then roll into the tank so all the flow isn’t going straight down. The fish will probably like that better as well since it has enough force to make a crater.
