Yes, it appears the core of the fly line is exposed here. The best thing to do would be to cut the weak spot off and nail knot a leader to the fly line from there.

Considering the braid is already exposed I would consider cutting it back and tie a micro loop (YouTube how).

Agree with previous responses… cut off the loop and do a nail knot for your leader connection. I’ve primarily used Orvis and Scientific Angler lines and I have never had this issue. What is the brand and brand level of the line? I have always found with fly, spin, and bait fishing, line is one of the most critical component of fishing. If you have low quality line, I would suggest replacing it. Most brands have basic, intermediate, and pro lines. I have found that intermediate to pro lines will have better quality, low/no memory, and overall better performance. In regards to price, a good line will be from $75 to $175.

Curious, were you practice casting with nothing on the end?

Yep. I would cut off the bad part, & nail knot a new leader on the new end. Then when it’s time to change out that leader, tie a small loop in the butt section of the old leader…. As close to the flyline as you can. Cut off the excess. Now you have a new loop on the end of your flyline.

Is the line old?

Fishing dries: problem
Fishing wets: not huge problem

Personal preference, but i always cut the loop out and use a nail knot. I got tired of my loop getting stuck in the eyes. But yes, its a problem. The inner line is exposed

Most likely. They’re cheap enough – get a new loop.

Yes. Either cut it off and use a nail knot, or buy this https://restorline.com/products/reloop
