Season opens this weekend where I’m at and I’m trying up some streamers for the first time as it’s still pretty cold so I’m not expecting a whole lot of dry fly action which is usually what I fish. Not sure on hook size but it’s a 6.5mm brass bead. The only rod I have is a 9ft 5wt and I’m wondering if a streamer of this size is too big for my rod. I don’t want to damage my rod on the first day of the season! Also, if it’s all good then what kind of leader set up would you recommend? TIA

Not at all, it will fish fine on a 5wt. I personally prefer 7wts for just streamers so if I want to really size up, I can.
I’ve used them on a 5 before. You just have to be careful. I think I used a 3x
I fish streamers (wooly buggers, girdle bugs) on a 3WT.
I can fish 2 or 3 of these on a 5 wt. Just have to cast correctly
