Nice catch! If you wet your hands + keep them in the water it’ll make it more likely that they survive long term. Even if they swim off, taking off their slime layer with your dry hands can cause them to develop skin diseases or get parasites. The video below shows what can happen over the course of a couple of weeks when they lose the slime.
