hello all! i’m getting back in the fish keeping hobby. i was gonna start simple with a betta fish and got a tank cycling today. but it is SUPER dark. the picture i took was about 30 mins after setup (filter is running). i only have fluval substrate (rinsed prior) and a drift wood in there right now.. i used the drift wood in a different tank almost a year ago, but saved it because i loved the piece. so idk what it could be?? any advice to help it clear?? or products i should try?:)
i do plan on doing a small water change in about a week once my light arrives.

Did you pour the water directly onto the fluval stratum? It will turn the water ugly colors and become mode if so.
The fluval takes forever to clear, just let it cycle
It’ll take a few weeks to cycle, it’s no uncommon to be cloudy for a day or two. It’s recommended to wash off any sand or dirt before putting it in the tank but it’s hard to avoid a foggy start to a tank. Bottom line you’re doing it right! It’s just part of the process.
At least put a board underneath it, it doesn’t look stable.
Ah yes, fluval stratum 🙏😭 dw, it always does that
You rinsed the stratum. That’s your problem. Do a 100% water change and refill SLOWLY
Fluval and new drift wood can do that
