Looking for an all around 8 wt that I can fish tropical flats as well as salmon. Would this rod be ok for salmon if I throw on a different fly line?

For sure but you would probably need new line. The line on this is probably rated for warm water and would be super stiff in cold water applications. If you get it grab a salmon steelhead line. They have long bellies and are super easy to roll cast a long way.

  2. The short answer is yes , now if you want an upgrade get a redington predator rod and a lamson fly reel guru or speedster The predator rods are tough as nails and the lamson reels have sealed drags I’ve fished both in the salt for years kayak fishing and they hold up just a lil real world feed back for you if you look around you can find them on sale my go to flylines are SA lines because they last for years I’ve used others that crack in the heat
    I fish a floating line

  3. You can, and that reel is probably better suited for freshwater anyway. I’d use something like the Rio Outbound Short line for salmon fishing if you’re throwing streamers.

Just a heads up, if you are in a rush to buy this because it’s a deal, it’s easily found cheaper elsewhere. Backcountry has it for $275.
