Hi everyone, my coworker got me a betta fish for a grad present… I used what I had on hand to care for him.. is this a good set up? I know I need a heater .. 😭 I just wish people understood pets are not gifts if we aren’t prepared for them.. (side note I took him because he would’ve 💀in that tiny cup… )I’m also a plant girlie so I wanted to make sure he had places to hid. The tank is mixed with real and authentic plants .. any help to make this tank his special home would be appreciated. Thank you!

Stunning setup for on the fly! Definitely get a heater asap, they prefer 78-81°F. And get the API liquid master test kit when you can so you can keep an eye on the cycle (if you don’t know abt the nitrogen cycle search that in this sub for more info!! It’s very important for the health of ur lil buddy!). Good job so far & good luck!!🍀❤️

Nice setup. Add a heater and test the water for pH, etc and you’re probably good

It is looking so good!!! Cycling the tank is a huge thing you’re going to want to do if you haven’t already and then the api master test kit is gonna give you the best reading. Also, I would take out any fake plants I have had many bettas snag their fins and it can turn into bacterial infection and or fin rot. and I would personally add some more floor plants or grass for comfy places for them to rest. Also adding some tannins like alder cones and almond leaves are a natural antibacterial and antifungal and softens the ph of the water it’s really good to have in your tank over all:) keep up the good work!

Amazing. Sorry you are having to figure this out on the go. Getting good advice here. I’ll add, betta fish can and so get stuck in holes. Inspect the driftwood and think like a cat who is stuck in a dumb fish body and has the whole “curiosity killed the cat” thing going on. Also, their fins can tear on decor and fake plants. We recommend a stockings test, run them along anything you want to have in the tank to check for safety. If nothing snags, you are good to go! Fish love tannins that stain the water. Some keepers really love and lean into the look. Some don’t like it. Look at some natural tanks with tannins to see if you like it.

Oh, and they can and do jump. I think you may be good at that water level, but maybe get more opinions on that

I’d recommend a sponge filter over HOB personally. Get a heater that has a guard so your fish doesn’t fry
