Just found that my relatively new rio gold 6wt has a nick ~5ft in. I know all line eventually degrades with use, but just how much functionality was lost here. It doesn’t appear to be down to the core and isn’t causing the line to kink at all, but I can feel it by running my finger across the line

No functionality, it’s fine.
It will be absolutely fine. I’ve seen lines that are absolutely destroyed and people still fish ‘em with no issue. Don’t stress!
Don’t listen to me directly, do your research, but im thinking a small dab of super glue, silicone, or some sort of similar compound can probably extend its life a bit. Just small so it doesn’t throw anything off though. Again, that would be my first point of research, not saying its a good idea for sure.
I might not use it if I was fishing for a giant brown in the White River, but I have fished with a nick like that with no issue.
It happens. It’ll be fine. Lil dab of aquaseal if it will makes you feel better.
