Blog.
My friend sent me these photos a few months back but never had the chance to write a full post and since I’m on Reddit today and have some time I’d thought I’d post for you guys as an idea to what to go for when setting up a tank for your wild bettas, wild hybrids or bettas in general.
For wild bettas they love to have some amount of tannin in their tank, as you can see the tank is a nice tea color which is not too dark or too light but just perfect, he this with just the right amount of dried almond leaves and botanical to help keep the tank just in the sweet spot.
It’s best for you to experiment the amount to see what works best for you, wild bettas also like sometime plants, here he has some anubias which grows well in low light whilst maintaining some good floating plant is also a good option.
Tanks for wind shoulder be too big because they can find it overwhelming as in the wild their territorial proximity is no more than a few feet so having a decent size tank of around 5gallons is a good size to go with as it offers a good area for them to feel comfortable in.
Wilds do not like flow there’s a few options to make when setting up a wild bettas tank and that’s if you want to use a filter or not but it’s important to note that no filter tank requires routine water changes. In the wild there’s very minimal to no flow at all so having a tank with no filter or a very slow moving filter will be the best choice for wilds, too fast and they will stress out and get tired quickly.
Temperature of 24-27 Celsius is the sweet spot if the water temperature is too cold wild bettas will be very stagnant and will go into survival mode so keeping a good temperature at all times is essential.
Males and females should not be kept as pairs unless breeding! The misconception of keeping a pair together is not recommended by me personally because it causes a lot of stress for the female as the male will constantly try to breed with her and aggression spikes are common. Overbreeding will also stress the male also looking into a wild haram is another option but a large tank and thick vegetation is advised.
Feel free to comment or ask any questions id be more than happy to help.
