Long story short: I have a male betta that was moved to my hospital tank not too long ago. I’m a hobbyist with few tanks and to be frank, I hadn’t used the hospital tank for its intended purpose in quite some time. I had kept plants and snails to keep up with the cycling, but otherwise- empty 5g tank (obligatory photo attached). Before I moved Cornflake (thanks to whichever of you in this sub said that should be his name) to the hospital tank I researched tank mates for male bettas. I landed on 2 African dwarf frogs and I’ve since moved the snails to another quarantine tank before putting them in another freshwater tank. Cornflake doesn’t mind the frogs; the only interaction I’ve witnessed was a stare down / long hello as they sized one another up. Additionally, my frogs have shown no nipping or aggression, either.
Disclaimer: *I was warned before adding frogs it’s sort of a 50/50 scenario*. They’d either get along, or they wouldn’t, but in the store rep’s opinion it’s just as common for the companionships to fail as it is for them to succeed.
Now I’m here wasting cubes of frozen worms because 1 betta and 2 African dwarf frogs cannot feasibly finish a cube in 48hrs.
Anyone else have frogs & bettas that that might be able to give me tips?
Final note: My hospital tank transformation is. Only a few weeks old. I fully intended to have a marsh like aqua scape later in the year with loads of live plants but I’m taking my time when adding my plants.

Not sure if this is necessary but just in case:
5 gallons tank (7 established live plants- image is simply for tax purposes).
PH is WNL. In face, all levels are ideal.
A thawed cube will keep in the fridge for a few days.
Hey! Ive just started stocking a new tank for a betta, I got some lampeye killifish yesterday and am planning on getting pygmy corys as well. Both species work well with bettas 🙂
