Went to my local spot now that we have finally got some warm weather here in NJ. And there were dead fish floating near the bank. Honestly surprised to see so many (dead) fish because I often get skunked here, but when you see 3 or 4 floaters at the bank is it a lost cause to go fishing there?

Thats a gizzard shad, they have winter die offs, and you likely wouldn’t be catching it unless you snagged it anyway…
How many dead fish would you say there is?
That would raise a few alarm bells with me too man.
I would’t fish there period. Not even catch and release.
I would pass. I wouldn’t want to stress the remaining fish in there if they’re already struggling. And if it’s some kind of toxin or pathogen that’s killing them (as opposed to low oxygen levels or something like that), I wouldn’t want to be handling the fish either.
