I have a 6 gallon tank that has been cycling for 4 weeks and was brought to the pet store by a friend only to spontaneously get this new friend.
I realized later on with the regret that he seems to be a plakat (i was under the assumption that they are high-energy and need more space) and I feel like my tank is way too small for him and that my water parameters aren't at a good enough level (my pH is super acidic like 6.0 and the rest i have to retest to accuracy).
I just feel underprepared and wanna know if my worries are valid and i should start setting up a bigger tank or this is alright? I just want him to thrive.

return him if you aren’t confident in your ability to keep him alive. impulse buys are irresponsible
Are you sure that’s a plakat? It kinda looks like a delta to me. But either way, whether it’s a plakat or delta (or other), a 6 gallon is perfectly fine especially if you plan to upgrade. You don’t need a 10 gallon. They would probably appreciate the extra 4 gallons, but they will do just fine in a 6 gallon! So, 10 gallons if you wanna spoil them, but 6 is fine and they will likely still thrive.
That is not a plakat, it is a spade tail. 6 gallons will be just fine him. As for the ph- although 6.0 isn’t ideal, it’s still perfectly fine for a betta. It’s still in the acceptable range (6.0-8.0) even if it’s on the more acidic end. Important thing to note: “bad” stable ph is WAY better than “good” ph that fluctuates a bunch.
6 gal will fine. It will be the biggest space this fish has ever seen.
As for the Ph buffer you need to sort you kh out first as just adding buffer will make you ph go up and then come back down. Rapid swings are not good.
Certain ph buffers are absolutely crap and shouldn’t be sold. Ph up and ph down is one terrible product.
Seachem kh buffer and some aragonite or cuttle bone would be best. Crushed coral if you cant find anything else. There is a ratio calculator somewhere online.
