Hello everyone!

We took over a complete tank from someone and now realize that there are a couple of sole fish that, according to the internet, should be in a group.

1) Zebra Loach

2) striped Raphael catfish

3)Silver flying fox

4) Neon Tetra XL

For which of these fish is it the most important to be in a group?

And do you think the Neon Tetra to prefer being in a 120l tank with more neon tetras or be alone in a 480l tank with some South American Cichlids?

Thanks for your help!

  1. Soooo you have a bingo lineup of social fish. With the exception of the catfish, the other three are schooling fish.
The main thing to know, the schooling fish are dependent on numbers to thrive and display amazing colours and personalities.
(My tank has 52 boraras brigittae and i chose them because of the schooling displays)

    1. Zebra loaches
Zebra Loaches (Botia striata) are highly social, schooling fish that must be kept in groups of at least 5–6 individuals to thrive, reduce stress, and display natural behavior.

2.Striped Raphael catfish – Another social fish
Striped Raphael catfish (Platydoras armatulus) are considered sociable, and peaceful fish that thrive best in small groups of 3–5 or more, often huddling together in hiding spots.

    3. Silver Flying fox – not a schooling fish but a shoaling fish
Best Kept in Groups: They are considered shoaling(like to stay together) fish and are best kept in groups of at least 3 to 6 to help distribute any potential aggression

    4.Neon Tetra
Neon Tetras are highly social, schooling fish that thrive in groups. *They are not suitable for living alone* and require the presence of their own kind to feel secure and reduce stress.

  2. Man a single loach must be so lonely, they are the dogs of the home aquarium they need a pack. Get that little guy 5 or 6 friends and watch them literally play hide and seek and tag , they are adorable. Mine would even play with ping pong balls floating at the top they would ram then and wait for another one to send it back like a slow motion game of pong.
