La Parguera is the most awesome little town in South Puerto Rico. I bait fished with my wife one windy afternoon and then by myself one morning to fly fish. We had 5 fish on 15 hookups in 4 hours. I had 3 hookups in 3 hours of fly fishing but got none for pics.

The gorgeous town has nice friendly people and awesome seafood. Crime is nearly non existent. The place had old Mexico sea town vibe without the cartel looming. Worth a visit even without fishing. We did sunsets, bioluminescent bay swimming, some shopping and way too much eating and drinking.

At the risk of a pointing out a gem we are returning to, I decided to shout out Capt Luis who was about the friendliest man I ever met, like a giant happy Puerto Rican bear. He’s also a hell of a fisherman and he’s been doing this for decades. Reasonable rates and high level efficacy. There’s a fly fishing lodge on western PR that charges 3 times as much for fly fisherman for the same fly experience and guides that aren’t locals , 1800 for a full day vs 900. Whatever you decide when fishing in PR, try locals if you can. They’re smarter about their area. Like most everywhere, proceeding with respect and kindness produces good times.
