I bought it last spring with intentions on it being a crankbait setup, but didn’t much like it for the cranks I usually use. I didn’t get to use it much due to being a new dad so I may just not have enough time with it tbf. I was also thinking it may be good for chatter baits and spinnerbaits which I use a lot more than crank baits anyway. Appreciate any opinions.

  1. Throw whatever you want on it, and ignore the “crankbait” aspect of your rod.

I honestly believe that the trend towards ultra-specific rods is 100% a marketing tactic to get us to buy more shit that we don’t really need. I have several rods, but that’s because they are different strengths (L, ML, M, MH). I don’t have dedicated rods for certain lures…and up to this point I STILL haven’t been out on the water thinking to myself “man I’d catch more on this swimbait if I had a swimbait rod.”

  2. Glass rods like that are perfect for cranks, chatterbaits and moving baits in general. Especially those with treble hooks which is why you normally see them marketed as cranking rods. The moderate action helps reduce the chances that small treble hooks get ripped out of the mouth of the fish. And since the bait is moving it also increases the chances a fish fully eats something like a chatterbait whereas a fast action rod might pull the lure out too quickly.

They tend to be heavier due to the glass construction and the bendy tips make them poor for working jerkbaits or getting good hooksets on something like a texas rig or jig.
