I’ve been eyeing a fishing kayak for couple years and was pretty set on a Hobie Pedal Drive. But this looks like a great deal on a well reviewed kayak. First question…is it as good a deal as appears or are these often available on discount?
Secondly, I was quite set on a pedal/foot drive as that’s what I’ve used the couple times I’ve gone kayak fishing and it’s SO convenient. Do others feel like that’s a reasonable dealbreaker in not buying this one? I’m fairly fit and I’m sure I’ll build up paddling stamina but being able to move around while hands are occupied is great. I was also fairly set on getting a sit-on vs sit-in. Maybe because my only experience is with a sit-on but it just seems way more practical for fishing. Am I wrong?
Use case: lakes, rivers and inshore salt. So essentially all bodies of water potentially…
I fly fish ~75% of the time so standing up and having great stability is very key. My ideal day on the water would be soaking a line with bait on it to hopefully catch dinner while I stand and fly fish.
Overall I’m wondering if this is a “can’t miss” deal or if I’m better off keeping an eye on FB for a fairly kitted out Hobie PDL for a grand or two more. And maybe circling back to this if that doesn’t happen soon.

I would look more to sit in tops rather than a sit in. The higher you are on the water, the more capable you are when casting and spotting fish. I don’t see no pedal drive being an issue. A lot of the time I will anchor where I want to fish. I don’t really see you being able to stand in this particular kayak though. Pretty key for fly fishing from a boat I feel.
Not sure your budget, but I would highly recommend a pedal drive of some kind. I bought essentially this kayak pictured, had it for 4 months and upgraded. Having your hands free the whole time while fishing is so much nicer. Obviously this doesn’t matter as much for fly fishing, but if you ever troll, it is 100x better.
