This is my new Betta fish tank, all the plants are alive and real. This is the first time I’ve ever done a live planted Aquascape. I’m not loving how it looks and I don’t know if it’s just because the plants aren’t mature yet, but does anybody have any advice to help make this pop/look more natural and at all better?

  1. I don’t have a betta so take what I say with a grain of salt, but apparently they need resting areas near the top of the tank. You can get little hammocks for them so they can be near the top without losing energy. They also really love floating plants. I’ve had that fluval tank before and there can be a little condensation from the lid, so I recommend some red root floaters, frogbit or water lettuce floating plants. You can get a little corral for them so they stay on one side of the tank and so the water flow doesn’t disturb them as much.

I’d say a reason you’re not liking it currently is, as you said, the plants haven’t grown in. It will look better with time! That piece of wood is really striking and beautiful. You could possibly get some more plants like limnophila sessiliflora since it’s a really fast grower. If you place it at the back, and propagate it as it grows, it’ll make that wood (and your betta!) pop out even more.

Make sure you get some plant fertiliser so your plants can stay healthy and grow fast. Nitrates should be around 20ppm for them since they’ll consume the Nitrates as they grow, and make your tank healthier!

    Hope this helps 🙂
