I recently bought a Tiagra but it’s a little scuffed. am I able to polish it like normal metal or will that damage it

A fine polish lightly applied like Flitz is ok if you want to clean/shine it. But you can’t polish deeper scratches out since you’d have to abrade away the anodized layer to smooth it out. That will result in faster corrosion of the reel. When I bought a set of Makairas I was glad it already had scuffs from previous owner so I wouldn’t feel bad when I added more. I would just give the outside a good cleaning, service the internals, and enjoy the reel as is.
