What fish have you encountered that would go for just about any fly? Like it could be a freshwater fish that'd go for a saltwater crab fly if it could. My choice would have to be juvenile Bluegills. I went to a small lake once and threw a lazy cast close to the bank and immediately caught a tiny blue. A minute later five or so were close to the bank staring at me as if they were waiting for food lol.

Sunfish species in general are just like that when not pressured much.

Yellow perch and even chain pickerel seem to be like that in my experience also. Maybe juvenile largemouth or smallmouth too.

Trout around me stocked or wild are difficult anyway, even when not pressured. I will say brook trout are often not too picky and are very opportunistic often though. They’re just spooky. As long as it matches close to the size of something and looks like a bug.

Developed a close relationship with the Bluegill in my grandpa’s lake (pond). I think they bite just to say hello sometimes. He used to bring a can of worms so if he caught the same one he could send it off with a snack the second time. Water pigeons.

I love getting these guys in late summer, when it’s too hot for trout. I go to a great big lake nearby, throw out some dries, and these guys SMACK the surface and run hard. Use big flies and keep the tiny fish off. Then I take about a dozen home, filet, batter and air fry. I love bluegill.
