Bought it on a whim to see if I can grow it (I'm hit and miss with plants) but failed to take into account my roadtrip.
I'll be gone for a week (someone's coming to watch my fish) and I don't know if I should leave it in the cup, or quickly plant it now.
If I plant it now, I'll have to rip it up when I get back

Throw it in the water it’ll be fine floating until you get back
It’ll be fine if you leave it close to a window for the week. What’s your tank setup? Personally I would not let anyone ‘watch my fish’ most fish will be fine for a week unattended.
