So you think all my bettas’ fins were altered?

Doing it at all is awful and cruel regardless of whether it’s done to all of them or just some.

  2. I feel like this isn’t the easiest environment for me to participate in.
It seems like some people assume things without fully understanding what they’re looking at… even PK posts are being labeled as “modified” when they’re not 😒
Let me share a bit more context about the betta industry. In Southeast Asia, even governments support the hobby by hosting competitions. This creates a platform where breeders can earn from their work. Out of thousands of fish, only a few turn out to be high-quality, so breeders naturally focus on raising and selling those at a higher value.
I’ve been told that even if I didn’t personally do anything, I’m still “supporting” it by purchasing fish. But by that logic, anyone who buys imported bettas would be doing the same.
If you’re going to call someone an animal abuser, then that standard should be applied consistently. I don’t see the same comments directed at posts where fish are clearly unhealthy.
I just hope people can keep a more open perspective instead of assuming there’s only one “correct” way to keep bettas.

  3. I came here to share what I’ve learned and to keep learning about bettas with others. I wanted to contribute and exchange knowledge, but somehow this has turned into accusations of animal abuse, which is honestly discouraging.
This space is starting to make me question my own fish and my experience in a negative way, which isn’t why I’m here. Before labeling someone as abusive, I think it’s important to understand the context and the industry more deeply.
Some fish may have different fin structures for various reasons, but none of my bettas are sick or neglected. Their health and condition are always my priority.
I’m just trying to share knowledge, not promote harm. I hope we can keep discussions constructive and based on understanding rather than assumptions.

  4. It’s frustrating to see such a narrow perspective being treated as the only “right” view, while others present themselves as the only true animal advocates.
