This beautiful shithead arrived earlier this week.

Less than a day later I thought, huh, I haven’t seen any shrimp today. I checked — it was massacre.

They were all headless at the bottom of the tank. 😭 All the adults – maybe 30 in total? Not a single one left alive.

There were *hundreds* of babies before he arrived. I knew I’d lose some, but my previous 3 betta have always lived harmoniously alongside the shrimp colony.

Sharing this to publicly shame this beautiful bastard, and to also share a warning. My tank is *super* densely planted. The substrate is entirely covered in moss and shrimp hides. There are many places in the tank that a Betta can’t get to. I did everything the Internet recommends for co-habiting. It made no difference in this case.

When these guys hunt they’re unstoppable.

Your tank is really small and bettas are predators. I’m really sorry this happened to you it’s a tough lesson but I’m surprised you’re surprised. Keep an eye on your fish and consider fasting him for a few days.

Unfortunately that’s always a risk. They’re predators at the end of the day
