I started fly fishing October 2025, a little over 6 months ago. I went on 6 guide trips in that time.
I fish Pisgah in WNC. I go to the Davidson river 75% of the time.
So for 2-3 months I was only fishing deep holes in the winter. Now that spring has come around im back to fishing in the faster water.
Everytime I go out, I catch like 3 fish. Last week I caught 20. It was a good day. And i haven't done that again since.
I'm sure im using the right flies, im thinking it's mostly in my approach that's keeping me from catching more fish.
I fished for stickers and few times and crushed it. But wild fishing has been different and that's all I want to do. The goal is to be a guide for my friends business.
How does it sound like im doing? Am i behind? I know the Davidson is hard, but jeez… Any tips to catch more fish consistently? Any questions im forgetting? Thank you in advance!
