There’s a shallow man-made pond near me that’s stocked with Northern Pike. Water is still pretty cold but I wanted to get out there this weekend on my kayak and try my luck at catching one. Anyone with experience pike fishing have suggestions on where in the lake to find em?

  1. Just throw some spinner baits and try different speeds and depths,

But make sure you’re wearing a life vest (always), but ESPECIALLY if that water is really cold. Can shock you and take over really quickly. Tight lines!

They’ll be anywhere on a lake that size/depth. Fish near any weeds or structure with a wacky rig, or just cover lots of water with long casts with a spoon

Not sure of location but be sure to check regulations. Pike might be closed until after the spawn.

  4. Not sure where you are but pike spawn in shallow bays and coves in early spring so I would focus on those and throw a #5 mepps or maybe a musky killer. Suspending jerkbaits also work really well like rapala xrap.

I always compare pike to cats. They will chase anything that moves by and catches their attention.

Spoons. Try different sizes and colours until you get a bite. My go-to is a white with red stripe, and it’s all scratched up from more than a decade of catching pike.

  7. Spoons and jerkbaits. Flashy and they will often hit on the pause inbetween jerks or twitches of the lure. This time of year if water is cold slower retrieval with more long pauses is probably best

Find any creeks or rivers that feed it or where water shed comes in. Find grassy/veg area use spinnerbaits large jerks to search them out.
