I've been working on getting a consistent fg knot, but I'm only hitting about 80% strength with 100 lb mono and 80 lb braid when tested with a fish scale.
My main issues is that I can't get the area near the red arrow to tighten and turn color well enough. The wraps also tend to spread apart more near that area and bend the mono, while the other area is straight.
Also when I have pulled it to failure, it tends to snap near the half hitch and the line has no curls, just fibers at the end.
Any tips?

Do you have tension on your braid when youâre tying the knot?
I tie a couple of half hitches, trim the mono even with the top of the knot then tie a couple more half hitches on the braid.
