We’re fishing from the bank. Why would I chose one over the other?

Depends entirely on what type of presentation you’re doing
The question is more “do you want to be doing a drop shot? Texas rig? Carolina?”

From the bank of what? River, lake, pond, surf?

If the first one should be fixed, you will notice only bigger bites. For the second, you will see also smaller fish.

Egg sinkers allow fish to take bait without feeling the weight of the sinker by allowing the line to run through it. You need figure out what size you need for your area. If it’s too light the will roll away and be annoying.

Rivers you dont use weights, you go with the flow. Lakes you only use weights that big for catfish. Ocean you use offset premade rigs with a 3 Oz pyramid. Ponds, use either live bait or bass rigs ( Jigs. Rattlers. Spoonbills. Etc)

There’s not nearly as much difference as some people will make it to be. Carolina/fishfinder is easier to rig and cast imo. If it’s rocky I use a three way with light leader on the sinker because it’s most likely to hang up.
As far as the fish not feeling resistance it’s basically not true. That tiny little hole through a 2oz. sinker isn’t going to let line slide through with no resistance unless it’s perfectly lined up and the reel is in free spool. That’s not going to happen. Try it yourself. Cast out in your yard and try to pull line through the sinker without moving it.
