Hey guys, I’ve had 10 kuhli loaches in my planted 20 gallon (long) for about 1.5 years now. Two of them (the same two) have been constantly glass surfing for like 3 days now & I can’t for the life of me figure out why.. Nothing about the tank or its parameters have changed

PH- 7.6

Temp- 79 degrees

Ammonia – 0

Nitrite – 0

Nitrate – 20ppm

(Tested this morning & yesterday morning)

I know the surfing can indicate stress or poor water quality but parameters are good, no new fish added & no hiding spots removed.. also the fact that my other 8 loaches are chilling no problem? It’s just these two weirdos lol. Any thoughts are appreciated 🙏🏼

  1. Recently do a big plant trim? Remove some hardscape or plant cover?

That’s all I can think of, if this is an established tank and established fish.

  2. They are just loaching. The more of them you have, the more likely they are to do this 🙂 I think it’s social excitement related to breeding behavior. When they mate, they link up and swim together while releasing eggs in the current.
My dad and I had a hundred of them, and now and then they’d all go crazy. Particularly after rains and thunderstorms.
