To explain my situation, my mom and I got a betta because on the pet stores everyone told us they are an easy fish to take care of. They told us they don't need a heater, or filters and that a 5 liter (a little more than 1 galon) is perfect for them.

Imagine my surprise when I get into this reddit and see that everything is W R O N G.

I already have the betta, doing total water changes every 2 days and making a diy heater to keep the temperature adequate to him. Already have an 8 gallon tank but I'm waiting for the filter and heater to arrive (delivery services on my country are REALLY slow) and don't have access to test stripes because the only ones I have found on the entire country are 45$ (don't have enough money and debating with myself if I should buy them from US Amazon since there are like 10$ there)

So yes, a 5$ fish have turned into a 100$+ investment and I'm too emotionally attached to him now. Almost no one on this country have proper knowledge on how to take care of fishes, especially bettas and it breaks my heart to not be able to give him the best life right now.

  1. Context on the pictures: changed his decorations since I learned plastic plants can harm their fins, bought natural plants for him.

this is why I get frustrated when people assume someone didn’t talk to a pet store because they are FULL of wrong info 😩

I also fell victim to this line of thinking but thaddeus already had my heart and it has been very much worth the investment.

are you looking for specific advice or general help? what would help the most?

also please answer the auto mod questions and let us know which ones you can’t as well

Plz keep sharp and pointy objects out of they will rip their fins on them easily. Smooth edges. Not super tight holes
