Just purchased my first spj rod and I noticed the reel lock has some tension and when I’m twisting up/down the groves. Assuming some salt/grime build up. Any recommendations on how to loosen it up so it’s smooth both while locking and unlocking my reel without damaging the reel seat? I currently have some reel oil and wd40.

You don’t want it to spin freely because then your reel could spin right off the rod. As long as it’s not cross threaded it’s fine. It’s plastic on plastic so nothing to corrode/rust 👍
You want that tension. It keeps it from backing off.
