I only take a max of 4 3600 size tackle boxes with me in my kayak. I do this because a) I want them all to stay secure in the event of a tip, and that's what my closed crate fits and b) because I have a rule that I cannot buy new lures/plastics until they can fit in these four boxes. I sometimes break that rule, but it also keeps me from being too impulsive at the bait shop.

My terminal tackle box takes up one of those four boxes. It's an Evolution "one hand open" box, but nothing special beyond that. My boxes stand vertical on their spines when in the kayak crate, and I was getting annoyed at how often hooks were getting tangled, swivels floating from compartment to compartment, etc. I made some mods to my box. Sharing here in case it is helpful for anyone (pics in order of steps below):

1) I affixed a piece of cardboard (wrapped in packing tape) to the inside of the lid. This compresses down on the compartment walls and mostly helps gear stay put instead of floating over them when the box gets flipped about.

2) I put most of my hooks on safety pins so they all face the same direction and are contained.

3) I bought these small molybdenum magnets off Amazon. UTOMAG Powerful Magnets with… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FG7SDKK5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

4) I affixed the magnets to the side walls of each compartment in the box. Some compartments with smaller hooks got three magnets, others just two or even one. I put a bunch (bottom and side walls) in the compartment with swivels and snaps to just kind of keep that mass of metal a little separated.

Overall, I am very happy with how this turned out. I realize I could buy specialized boxes with organizers and separators, but I'm just trying to stay within a budget for this hobby.

I hope someone else finds this useful.
