What I have:

Shimano SLX 70 bait cast reel on a 7ft med-heavy Shimano Sellus

Shimano Miravel 3000 on a 7ft med Shimano Sellus

Daiwa Regal LT 2000 on a 9ft ultralight

I mainly bank fish in ponds or jump in the kayak at my local reservoir. I’m targeting spotted bass/largemouth. But when I can’t catch, I switch species and target crappie. Would like to catch perch too.

I have a 1/2oz blade bait I use as a search bait since it casts far.

3/16oz damiki rig, I don’t have FFS, but it still seems effective. Kinda fun doing the Alabama shake too. I watch too much MLF.

Double minnow rig with a slip bobber and two split shots. 1/16oz jig on the bottom with a Bobby Garland Shad and a 1/24oz on top also on a Bobby Garland Shad.
(Really surprised I haven’t caught a crappie yet)

This is pretty much my staple. I was wondering if you guys had any input on modifications or what my next setup should be.

At this point, I just want to up my catch numbers with any of the targeted species.

Appreciate any input! Thanks!

Oh and if it helps I run 15lb braid with 12lb fluoro leader for my bass rods, and 4lb braid with 4lb fluoro leader for crappie rod

Use one of God’s chosen combos and 6-8lb mono matching color of water. Road runner white jig head 1/16th, do not get the bleeding hook variant. And Big Bite Baits triple tail grub, white. Be prepped to lose the tails a lot. Fish shred them. I have another set up too I use for basically every larger fish. You just cast this down a river and gently, slowly reel back up. Keep letting it go deeper and deeper until things begin biting. They work best on sunny days at any point in the day.

Also, I just posted today’s nice lil after work catch with this same guy. 6lb mono clear was the line. Mono is great on bass because it stretched so they’re less likely to bust the line.

  3. It sounds like you’ve got a decent strategy that has been working pretty well. Nothing wrong with sticking with what you works, but experimenting is one of the things that keeps fishing interesting.

One thing I try to do is after every trip, think of one thing that I’ve learned (or better yet, every fish). Every bite and every fish is a clue. What was different on the cast that hooked into a fish? Was the location different, or the retrieve, or the time of day?

Not catching fish is a clue as well. Try to think of things you can do different. For me, it’s easy to get discouraged because it can feel like there’s a thousand different things to try. Just pick something and see if it works.

Sometimes I try something, and I’m are sure it will work, but it doesn’t. Other times I have 0 confidence in what I’m doing, but it works.

Double bladed buzz bait. If you catch this in the weeds. Buy a lotto ticket.

Perch for me are more a boat and dip. A 2 hook setup on the wire rod. Bounce it off the bottom. Live bait.
