was abt to go fishing, swapped spools on my sahara 3000 and i realized theres no drag washers under the spool. im assuming they all fell out after numerous spool swaps. ive felt my drag slip before when i dont have it locked so maybe i found the cause?

i have some extra from an old solstace 2500 but my question is do i need them for the reel to work properly? can i still go on my trip and worry abt it later or should i replace them before i use the reel?

piece #10 in the diagram is the washer im talking abt

if i have to replace them should i do it dry or add oil/grease. sorry if im being dumb

EDIT SOLVED: apparently those are called “spool washers,” not drag washers. i read the manual wrong bc i was hurrying. leaving the post up in case it helps any other idiots like me 🎓

  1. DosadnoMiJeBrate on

Those are, afaik, washers to adjust your line lay, you put them on to adjust how your reel stacks line. Most reels lay line perfectly from the factory so they aren’t really needed.

  2. The drag is inside the spool, not under it. You can see them when you take the drag cap off. They are numbera 4 5 and 6 in the diagram. Those pieces in the bag (#10) are shims to adjust how the line lays on the spool.

  3. Read the piece of paper with them, those are not drag discs they are shims to adjust the spool height up and down if you are having the line coil in a cone shape when you reel. The drag discs are #4,5 and 6. If you are reeling your line on and it’s not going on even (one end has more line than the other), then you can add and remove shims to change the height until you get an even lay from top to bottom.
