My 20 gal aquarium! Currently it holds my male betta a few tetras, 3 mystery snails, 4 loaches, 1 pearl gourami and a bamboo and amano shrimp. I know people say not to put male bettas with other fish but we had him in another tank and transferred him to this one just to see and he loves it! My pearl gourami and him get along fine too but if you have any concerns I’m willing to answer!

  1. Like others have said, probably get a regulator for the airline so it’s not pushing so much bubbles. A lid is also a good idea for a couple reasons. A lid will prevent the betta from jumping out easily, and it will also prevent the aquarium water from evaporating so fast. A heater and bubbles will definitely speed up evaporation without a lid.

I’ll also add that the flow does look pretty strong. Not sure if you are just running a strong filter or are using a powerhead but maybe find a way to decrease the flow. Your floating plants might not grow as well either with a lot of surface agitation.

Final edit: just read the caption and see that you have a bamboo shrimp which require a pretty decent current so yeah idk if decreasing flow is best if you plan to keep that shrimp. Still seems like a lot of flow for a betta and the floating plants.

I would find the betta and new home as that current is way to much for him but nessasary for the bamboo shrimp. You can see the way the betta swims and it’s not happy.   The pearl gourami won’t like that much flow but will tolerate it much better then the betta. Betta and pearl may mix for a bit and then may fight when pearl fully matures or it may work out it may not but you already know this.

Otherwise it’s a nice tank OP

you can make do without the bubbler (all it does is make your tank level drop faster). get rid of floaters, and surface agitation is adequate enoughfor oxygen exchange
